Abdullah Al-Aidaros's Summer Internship at KLN Family Brands

"My name is Abdullah Al-Aidaros. This fall, I will be a senior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities pursuing a bachelor's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Supply Chain Management. My academic interests revolve around the intersection of operations/process improvement, management, and data analytics.

This summer, I am working as a Continuous Improvement Intern at KLN Family Brands. My internship is with Tuffy’s Pet Food, which is a subsidiary of KLN Enterprises with an annual capacity of 190,000 tons of product. I have had the opportunity to work alongside employees from various manufacturing departments while supporting projects that improve daily operations. My main responsibilities include leading waste reduction projects, where I analyze production data, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions that help improve productivity and enhance profitability.

The most rewarding part of this experience has been realizing that continuous improvement is ultimately about people. While data and analysis help identify opportunities, meaningful improvements happen through collaboration with the individuals who know the processes best. Throughout my internship, I have also gained hands-on experience with Lean principles and learned new approaches to problem solving by applying them to a real manufacturing environment."
