Mohammed Ba Sabbea's Acoustic Filter Design and Fabrication Development

"My name is Mohammed Ba Sabbea, and I am a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. I work in the RF and Microwave research group. My research focuses on acoustic filter BAW/SAW devices and their role in wireless communication systems.
This summer, I worked on improving the design and modeling of my devices; however, my work also requires fabrication in cleanrooms. I developed and evaluated designs, used computer modelling to study how the devices perform, and took part in fabrication work. Moving between these stages has helped me see how a research idea develops into a physical device. It has also strengthened my technical skills and taught me to consider practical constraints throughout the process.
My work contributes to research on devices that help wireless systems transmit and receive signals effectively. I have learned that each stage, from the first design to modelling and fabrication, can reveal new questions and guide improvements. This experience has made me more patient and independent as a researcher. I am grateful for the Hadhramout Foundation's support, which has helped me pursue my studies and research. I hope sharing my journey will encourage other students from Yemen to follow their interests and contribute to engineering."
