Aamena Bakarmom recently presented a paper entitled "Automated Building Geometry Correction for Energy Equity":
"This paper addresses a critical gap in how energy use is estimated in low-income communities. Many large-scale energy models rely on simplified building shapes and outdated assumptions, which can underestimate or misrepresent real energy needs in vulnerable neighborhoods.
Using updated parcel and spatial data, this study corrects building size and geometry in digital energy models for a low-income neighborhood in a hot, dry climate. The findings demonstrate that even basic improvements in building representation can significantly change predicted energy use.
By improving modeling accuracy, this research helps ensure that energy planning, renewable integration, and infrastructure investments are based on realistic data supporting more equitable decisions and reducing energy burden in low-income communities."
